Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up 19/1/19

Holton Road are Division One Champions, in what must be a record quickest title win by being crowned in January. The title was confirmed with a 5-0 thrashing of Cadoxton Barry, making it an incredible 15 wins from 15 games, and six league games to go. A tremendous achievement by all at the club and congratulations to all involved. Holton Road now focus on a potential treble as the compete for the SWFA Intermediate Cup and the VOGAFL Supporters Cup.

Elsewhere in Division One the race for the second promotion spot hots up. Tynewydd saw off SP Billy 5-3, while winger turned striker Jamie Livingston bagged a fantastic 4 goals in a 5-2 victory for Cadoxton Imps against Cardiff Airport and Cogan Coronation thumped Cwm Talwg 6-1 at the Rec. Just four points separate Tynewydd, Cadoxton Imps and Cogan now in the race for promotion.

In Division Two, Cameron Barrett and Nathan Gahan helped leaders AFC Rhoose B win the top of the table clash with St Athan B 2-0. Rhoose B move three points ahead at the top with a game in hand. Barry Vikings leapfrog St Athan B into second spot after a hard fought 2-1 win over Island Marine B making it five wins on the bounce for the Vikings. Goals from Alex Lee, Luke Brody Miles and Jamie Viscount got Barry Athletic B back to winning ways, with a 4-2 triumph over Cadoxton Athletic at the Athletic Ground to further compound the away sides recent run. At Cwrt Y Vil there was 11 goals as Penarth Town B defeated Vale Madrid 7-4 to stay fourth.

In the Premier Division, AFC Rhoose thumped 7 past bottom of the league St Athan with 2 in reply. Ben Murphy grabbed a hat trick, Josh Bryan a brace and one apiece for Jack Butler and Jordan Owen. Rhoose cut Barry Athletic’s lead to 4 points, as they win their game in hand. The title race is very much on in the Premier Division. It’s now seven league games without a win for St Athan, as last seasons runners up prop up the division. In the other Premier Division game, Cowbridge Town were held at home 1-1 by Sully Sports.

League action returns next week as long as we’re not snowed under as we don’t have any orange balls in the VOGAFL offices. Check out the full round up here next week, plus keep an eye out for a full preview of this weekends games that should drop Wednesday.
