Vale of Glamorgan Football League Round Up
St Athan won the Barry Cup against their local rivals Llantwit Major on a glorious day at Jenner Park. St Athan came in as Premier League leaders, while Llantwit Major came in as Division Two champions having won every game they have played this season. However, St Athan triumphed as Joe Laing’s top draw double added to Reece Lewis’ opener to sealed a 3-1 win and the Vale’s showpiece cup with Bradley Young named man of the match.
In Division One, Sully Sports completed the league and cup double inside twenty four hours as they won the the Supporters Cup on Friday night with a 2-0 victory over Tynewydd at Jenner Park, Luke Hanlon and skipper Aaron Longomo getting the goals. Then on Saturday nearest rivals Barry Saints lost 3-0 to Cogan to confirm rivals Sully as Division One champions. Sully have dominated Division One all season and are much deserved champions. Elsewhere in Division One, Cadoxton Imps late surge for survival went on as they stunned SP Billy 5-3, Cwm Talwg helped their survival hopes with a 2-0 over Penarth Town B which condemns them to life in Division Two, while Cardiff Airport closed on second with a 4-2 win over Cadoxton Athletic who slip to second bottom and the chance of third tier football next season.
In the Premier Division, Barry Belgrade snuck past Island Marine with a 1-0 win, while Barry Athletic and Rhoose’s title hopes took a major blow as they cancelled each other out in a 2-2 draw. Belgrade still have five games in hand on leaders St Athan and face a flurry of fixtures in the next two weeks.
In Division Two, Island Marine B edged Barry Albion to go third with a 1-0 win and boost their promotion hopes, although teams below do have games in hand. St Athan B completed their fixtures with a 3-1 victory over promotion hopefuls BRT Dynamos, St Athan B with only two losses in their last nine league games to end the season strongly.
